september general meeting at jerry peters

we are off to an excellent start! 15 members today at the meeting and met some new friends and potential members. there is a lot to look forward to with all the events we have planned! of course there will be a mass of emails i will send regarding shows, announcements, and plans, but here on this blog i get to post photos and hope to gain interest from others who want to be a part of the clay arts guild.
thanks to jerry for hosting and also holding the tile/mosaic activity. jerry showed us a technique that he learned from a previous workshop. once-fired tiles. glazing on wet clay and tips to cut, fire, and grout mosaics. so many interesting and unique ways of creating tiles and mosaics-- very cool! here are some photos to share-

meeting at robs awesome place!

for our last meeting of season 2008-2009 clay arts guild, we met at rob mitchell's house in st. augustine. it was a short business meeting because we were all excited to get to the raku! barb was an amazing president and i dont know how i am ever going to fill her shoes, but im going to try pretty damn hard even if i have to teach jack how to type up meeting minutes so i can research protocol for the next 3D juried show.
thanks barb for everything you put into this guild as president. i know that you cant help but use your talents to inspire us, and youre not going anywhere (because you promised not to), so im excited for this group to head to YEAR #2!!!! with close to 30 members in one year, i say we are doing a tremendous job at teaching, inspiring and exciting each other through the miracle of clay art. miracle...because this medium that is supposidly dirty, messy, wet, and dusty to others, is what binds this group together and creating lifelong friendships. -am i getting sappy? sorry friends, its the post pregnancy hormones!
thank you rob for opening your beautiful home, gallery, and studio for an amazing raku firing. it was a blast. im glad i got a lot of pictures that captured action and how much fun we had. also, meeting new potter friends!
im looking forward to more exciting 'hot' times! haha

lake asbury art & pottery fair- may 2

i have to admit, festivaling with a 4month old was not as hard as i thought! haha. still very tiring, but i had so many offers to have friends hold him for a bit, and even customers who wanted to make an offer! so onto clay guild updates and pictures...
we had a gorgeous day with most of us in the shade the whole time- our pottery and other wares for sale smelled like sausage dogs and funnel cakes! YUM. there were many sales in competitiontion that day including the fernandina shrimp festival, world of nations, and even a church yard sale down the road, but we kept our spirits up and will find more solutions to making it even more fun and profitable next year.
thanks to Gail Sammond for heading the committee! and also Karen and Rob for giving us 'wet' entertainment of throwing a pot together- i have a 3minute video that is on you tube for your enjoyment! click here

mark your calendar for our may meeting- email me for info

st augustine garden show -april 4

i wish i had more pictures of the actual sale, i was out of town, but was able to swing by the day before to see the set up. so here are some pictures of the pottery layout. thank you to jerry peter's for hosting this awesome sale. your house and garden are BEAUTIFUL! and we look forward to holding another sale next year- with raku demo!

burnished pots

Our April meeting was held at Marilyn Godwins home, we made pinch and coil pots from lizella clay (our new favorite). and used Worley Favor's process of burnishing pots with a stone. We look forward to rakuing the pots at Rob's house during our May meeting...ahhh our May meeting. this will be a fun one, hopefully a huge turnout with ALL our members! we will raku! and also install our new officers, which i have to admit, im on for the challenge as president!!! (wish me luck~)
